“In June 2022, Intobi had the opportunity to engage with Valandinis for an initial specification assessment of software that would automate current business workflows. For this project, we aimed to build a scalable, Uber-like platform that could revolutionize how construction companies manage their teams and projects.

Background

Several companies were considered for the development work, but by August 2022, Valandinis chose Intobi as their development partner, prompting us to assemble the team. From the outset, the project captured our interest with its potential and scope. Valandinis approached the project with meticulous preparation, focusing extensively on discussions, planning, and technology alignment. As a result, our CEO, Andrii Tsopych, personally oversaw every project development phase.

To meet their needs, we developed a platform from scratch, delivering a suite of solutions. We provided a back office for project owners, admin panels for both construction managers and workers, and mobile apps for on-the-go project management. The implementations simplified tasks like team coordination, work hour tracking, and project management.

Business challenges

  • Valandinis required a robust software solution to automate their existing business workflows and enhance productivity. Their outdated manual system led to frequent errors and slow data processing. Due to that, they were constantly losing efficiency while managing routine operations.
  • They needed a platform to handle complex project details, including facility planning, budget management, and scheduling. The previous methods were not equipped to manage the detailed intricacies of their large-scale construction operations.
  • The solution had to facilitate smooth communication among construction managers and workers. Before our intervention, there was a disjointed communication in Valandinis. It frequently relied upon sporadic emails, phone conversations, and handwritten logs. This fragmented structure resulted in miscommunications, unfinished assignments, and confusing status of allocated work.
  • The system needed intuitive web and mobile apps for construction managers and workers. Working from various sites, Valandinis’ workforce required flexible access to the platform. However, their existing tools were not optimized for mobile use, forcing workers and managers to rely on desktop systems solely.

Comprehensive SaaS platform for construction management

We developed a robust SaaS platform that automated workflows, enhanced productivity, and improved management across all levels of the construction process. It consolidated complex tasks like project planning, scheduling, facility management, and budgeting into a unified system. The space also offered an admin panel for construction managers and a separate interface for workers, encouraging efficient and on-time task assignment.

The platform’s core uses C#/.NET for back-end functionality and React.js for front-end web development, ensuring high performance and scalability. The solution allows construction managers to easily assign tasks via a calendar-based scheduling system and monitor project progress through real-time updates.

Real-time mobile and web access

We developed both web and mobile applications using Swift for iOS and Kotlin for Android. The sign-up process is managed by App Admins. Construction managers can submit a registration request to add their organization. Once approved, they can begin by detailing their facilities — whether one or multiple — including start dates, deadlines, facility plans, budgets, and other specifics. Next, they invite their team of construction workers.

The platforms enabled managers and workers to manage tasks from anywhere. The user-friendly interfaces allowed for different roles’ accommodation, providing easy-to-navigate dashboards for construction managers.

Integrated project and team management

The system provides powerful tools for both construction managers and workers. Managers create detailed facility plans, manage budgets, assign tasks, and track the progress of ongoing projects, all within a single platform. Workers accept assignments through the mobile app, report working hours, and submit daily logs. Such an approach ensures that each step of the project is well-documented and tracked.

Automated tracking and reporting tools

Our solution includes sophisticated tracking features, allowing managers to monitor work hours, project timelines, and worker productivity in real-time. The platform generates detailed reports on tracked hours and task completion, offering valuable insights into project performance. These tracking tools reduce the risk of manual errors, streamline workflows, and ensure all stakeholders are aligned on progress and deliverables.

Workers track their daily activities, including start and end times, and report any absences. At the end of each day, the construction manager reviews and approves tracked hours or submits clarification requests. In case of disputes, Valandinis’ admin team has the authority to resolve the issues, ensuring that the platform maintains trust and security.

Third-party integrations for enhanced functionality

To expand the platform’s capabilities, we integrated essential third-party services such as Google Drive and AWS S3 for scalable data storage, Twilio for communication services, OneSignal for push notifications, and SendGrid for email notifications. These integrations ensure that construction managers can efficiently manage documents, stay in touch with workers, and receive real-time alerts, improving project management.
